How to choose and enroll in the right plan

Do you qualify for financial assistance to help pay for your health plan? If so, how much assistance will you receive? Think about your total health care costs–not just monthly premiums, but also out-of-pocket costs. This will help you determine which plan’s cost structure works best for you. Download our Insurance 101 Guide to understand key financial terms and how insurance works.

Be prepared… Before starting the enrollment process, it’s a good idea to gather documents like your latest W-2 tax form, pay stubs, and immigration documents if applicable. You will also need information for everyone in your household including those who’ll be on your health plan such as full names, birthdates, mailing address, and social security numbers.

Expanded eligibility means…More people qualify for reduced premium costs. A majority of Health Insurance Marketplace customers are eligible for cost assistance, and new income guidelines are driving lower premiums and out-of-pocket costs for many members—including reducing premium costs for families that previously didn’t qualify and bringing low-income families’ premiums to $0 (or near $0).

Comparing plans…All BlueSelect Health Insurance Marketplace plans are categorized as Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Generally, Gold pays more of your total health care costs, while Silver and Bronze pay less.

Decide which metallic level is best for you…If you don’t expect to use regular medical services or take regular prescription drugs, you may want a Bronze plan. These plans have the lowest monthly premiums but have higher deductibles and pay less when you need care.

Silver plans are a good option if you qualify for cost-saving reductions. Learn more →

If you expect frequent doctor visits or need regular prescriptions, then you may want a Gold plan. These plans may have higher premiums but pay more of your costs when you need care.

Beginning in 2025…eligible BlueSelect adult members and spouses who complete their annual wellness exam will receive a $100 Amazon gift card.

How to qualify…schedule and complete an annual preventive wellness visit with your provider. Services related to annual wellness exams are included in your member benefits and are free of charge.

It’s important to know…if you receive services beyond an annual wellness exam during your provider visit you may be subject to deductible and coinsurance. Only services rendered under an active contract are eligible.

Need help finding a provider…search in-network health providers near you using our Find a Doctor →

Keeping it easy for you…members do not need to file additional paperwork; once your provider files the claim with BCBSWY and it is processed, the gift card will be automatically sent to qualifying members.

Make sure you get rewarded…ensure delivery by confirming your current physical address through your member account at YourWyoBlue.com. If you purchase a Health Insurance Marketplace plan call 1-800-318-2596 to report an address change. Gift cards returned for a bad address will not be resent and BCBSWY is not responsible for postal theft. Lost gift cards will not be replaced.

You can enroll or change your health plan because of life changes during the Special Enrollment Period. You may qualify if, during the past 60 days, you’ve gotten married, had a child, moved, lost coverage due to divorce or job change, or if someone on your plan has died. Learn about the Special Enrollment Period and see a list of qualifying events here.
