GILLETTE, WYO  Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming has selected Campbell County Health in Gillette as a Blue Distinction Specialty Center+ for Knee and Hip Replacement.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield national association establishes uniform criteria to evaluate quality, patient safety and cost based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community and leading accreditation and quality organizations. Only those facilities that first meet nationally established quality and cost measures for Blue Distinction Centers are considered for designation as Blue Distinction Specialty Centers+.

“The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association evaluates thousands of hospitals across the United States and selects those that meet rigorous cost and quality criteria,” said Diane Gore, President and CEO of BCBSWY. “Campbell County Health is the first hospital in Wyoming to earn this level of recognition and we congratulate them for their designation as a Blue Distinction Center Plus for Hip and Knee Replacement.”

“We are thankful for their commitment to helping ensure that Wyoming patients have access to high quality care at a reasonable price for these procedures,” Gore said. Knee and hip replacement procedures remain some of the most commonly performed elective surgical procedures in the U.S., according to a 2018 study released by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons This link takes you to an external website..

“We are thrilled to have achieved the Blue Cross Distinction Center Plus designation”, said Chief Operating Officer Colleen Heeter at Campbell County Health. “Everyone in the organization is committed to providing Excellence Every Day, and this designation shows that we focus on quality care, great patient outcomes and cost efficiency in our total joint program. I am so proud of all our providers and staff for the work that they do every day for our patients.”

Facilities designated as Blue Distinction Specialty Centers+ for Knee and Hip Replacement demonstrate expertise in total knee and total hip replacement surgeries, resulting in fewer patient complications and readmissions. “I am honored to be part of the team that has received this designation,” said Stanford Israelsen, MD, orthopedic surgeon at Powder River Orthopedics and Spine. “I’m proud to provide my hip and knee replacement patients the best in clinical, surgical and rehab care in the state of Wyoming.”

All designated facilities must maintain national accreditation. In addition to meeting these quality thresholds, facilities designated as Blue Distinction Specialty Centers+ are on average 20 percent more cost-efficient in an episode of care compared to other facilities.

The Blue Distinction Specialty Care program remains a trusted and valuable source for patients seeking quality care in the areas of bariatric surgery, cancer care, cardiac care, cellular immunotherapy, fertility care, gene therapy, knee and hip replacements, maternity care, spine surgery, substance use treatment and recovery and transplants.

About Blue Distinction Centers
Blue Distinction Centers (BDC) met overall quality measures for patient safety and outcomes, developed with input from the medical community. A Local Blue Plan may require additional criteria for facilities located in its own service area; for details, contact your Local Blue Plan. Blue Distinction Centers+ (BDC+) also met cost measures that address consumers’ need for affordable health care. Each facility’s cost of care is evaluated using data from its Local Blue Plan. Facilities in CA, ID, NY, PA, and WA may lie in two Local Blue Plans’ areas, resulting in two evaluations for cost of care; and their own Local Blue Plans decide whether one or both cost of care evaluation(s) must meet BDC+ national criteria. National criteria for BDC and BDC+ are displayed on BCBS.com This link takes you to an external website.. Individual outcomes may vary. For details on a provider’s in-network status or your own policy’s coverage, contact your Local Blue Plan and ask your provider before making an appointment. Neither Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association nor any Blue Plans are responsible for non-covered charges or other losses or damages resulting from Blue Distinction or other provider finder information or care received from Blue Distinction or other providers.
