Inpatient Prior Authorizations & Concurrent Review Using Availity
Beginning April 1, BCBSWY started requiring all hospital inpatient prior authorizations and concurrent reviews for BCBSWY members to be submitted through the Availity portal.
At this time, you are not required to submit all prior authorization requests using Availity, but we do encourage you to use this method for quicker authorization turnaround times.
FAQ – Newborn Inpatient Authorizations
In the situation of a newborn requiring additional inpatient hospital days beyond the stay of the mother, providers should submit a separate authorization under the mother’s name (or the policy holder if different) and make the distinction of the hospital stay for the newborn under the clinical documentation section. In the case of multiples born, providers should call 1-800-251-1814 for authorization.
COVID-19 Cost-Share Waiver for Treatment
In our continued effort to make sure that our members do not face significant barriers in getting medical care to treat COVID-19, BCBSWY has extended our commitment to waive all member cost sharing and copayments for treatment, and inpatient hospital admissions for the treatment of COVID-19, effective through December 31, 2021.
