Childhood Obesity—Resources to Help You Lead the Fight
As a Wyoming physician, statistics show that one of every four kids you see is either overweight or obese. It's a statistic that has tripled over the last 30 years, leading to a host of health-related issues including a rapid rise in Type 2 diabetes among children and adolescents.
The Good Health Club Physician Toolkit was developed in consultation with the American Diabetes Association and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). These patient-friendly resources are provided to you free of charge by BCBSWY to help you confront obesity:
- Materials to help manage pediatric patients during office visits
- Educational materials for parents and patients:
- Take-home materials for patients and parents to track progress towards healthier choices
- Patient Healthy Tips that help you set goals with your patients and put an action plan in place to help them achieve those goals
- Weekly Journal sheets
Encourage patients to track their progress between visits.
Physicians were surveyed before and after using the Toolkits, and their feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The Toolkit is proving effective to physicians in educating patients and parents.
Seventy nine percent of physicians considered the patient educational materials effective.
