How to add a family member to your coverage

The steps you take will depend on whether you purchased your insurance coverage directly from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming, through the Health Insurance Marketplace, or you receive coverage through your employer.

I purchased coverage directly from BCBSWY

You will need to complete an application to add a family member to your coverage. In most cases, you will have a set amount of time to do this:

Birth of a Child?
Your application for coverage must be received by BCBSWY within 61 days of the newborn’s date of birth.

Adoption of a Child?
Your application for coverage must be received by BCBSWY within 61 days of the earliest date of either the petition file date or the child’s date of entry into your home. Please note: The adoption or legal guardianship papers must accompany the application for coverage.

Getting Married?
You can fill out the application for coverage to add your new spouse before getting married, as well as afterward; however, the application must be received by BCBSWY within 30 days after date of marriage.

Please select the alphabetic prefix found on your Member ID card:

ZSF

You will complete the enrollment application online at bcbswyoff.bswift.com. The username is your Member ID number (including the alphabetic prefix). The default password is the last four digits of the policy holder’s social security number. After logging in for the first time, you will be prompted to update your password. If you have logged in before, use the password you created.

ZSD

Please contact BCBSWY Member Services to obtain an application. You can contact us by secure email through Online Member Services or call us at 800-442-2376.

Return the completed application to us by mailing it to: BCBSWY, P.O. Box 2266, Cheyenne, WY 82003; faxing it to 307-778-8582; or dropping it off at your local BCBSWY office.

I purchased coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace

Go to healthcare.gov or call the Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596 to determine if you are eligible for a special enrollment period.

If you are eligible for a special enrollment period because you had a baby, adopted a child or got married, you have 60 days after the life event to add a family member to your coverage.

I receive coverage through my employer

Review your Benefit Document or ask your Human Resources department or Group Leader for details about adding a family member to your coverage.
