  • Office hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, journalism or related area or equivalent experience in a health care organization.

GENERAL PURPOSE

This position will develop professional communications, outreach and brand enhancement efforts for a variety of target audiences, including consumers; will develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, policymakers and media representatives to inform and educate about the health insurance market; and will assist in planning and executing the organization’s communications strategy focusing on strategies to improve consumer experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in developing and executing marketing, outreach, and public engagement efforts
  • Oversees digital marketing strategy and implementation
  • Maintains BCBSWY social media calendar and postings
  • Writes and distributes news releases and updates
  • Assists with regular updates to website
  • Assists with different graphic design projects
  • Manages PR, media relations and coordination of media outreach
  • Helps ensure the success of all electronic and printing projects
  • Researches and collects data, policies and information for strategic use
  • Develops reporting mechanisms to track and show data on success of communications
  • Attends or participates in special events and activities related to health care and health insurance and community organizations on behalf of the organization
  • Initiates and maintains effective relationships with local and state policymakers, employers, health care providers, traditional news media
  • Participates in the development of organizational events used to increase awareness and engagement with BCBSWY
  • Works towards quality initiatives

  • Maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Special projects as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY:

  • Ability to tailor communications to effectively connect with diverse audiences
  • Outstanding communication skills, including written and oral communication
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Collaborative, team player capable of working without direct supervision
  • Ability to travel and work after normal business hours and on weekends as needed
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, Adobe desktop publishing software (or similar program), graphic layout and design software
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Photography or videography experience preferred

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, OR FORMAL TRAINING:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, journalism or related area or equivalent experience in a health care organization.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of four years’ experience working with new and traditional media, web content, design, public speaking, public relations.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

Personal Computer, scanner, fax machine, telephone, copy machine, adding machine or calculator.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Works in an open office environment. Job activities include project understanding and analysis, outstanding written and oral communication skills, use of calculator and PC. Must be able to accomplish objectives in finite periods of time, accommodate multiple tasks and adapt to stressful situations. A valid driver’s license is required. Travel is required.
